1945: Daryl Perkins started his first trucking company hauling cattle and general commodities between southwest Minnesota and the Twin Cities. Following WWII, Perkins’ business evolved to specialize in transporting petroleum products in tanker trailers. That business was sold in the mid-50’s to a large multi-state carrier that was seeking to expand its market size. After this sale, Perkins immediately transitioned its business from petroleum transport to transporting pre-stressed concrete products and other building materials on flatbed and other forms of open top trailers.
Neil Perkins designed the first Perkins Motor Transport Logo.
1973: Perkins Motor Transport, Inc. was incorporated after Daryl Perkins died, his sons Neil, Dennis and Dean took over operation of the family business.
1980: Trucking was deregulated and Neil made a strategic move to address the changing competitive landscape that was a part of a new free market. Over a period of ten years, Perkins STC transitioned from moving construction materials, steel, and lumber to heavy specialized transportation only.

1991: Perkins hauled their first oversize load from Duluth, MN, to Saskatchewan in a blizzard and never looked back. Shortly after, all assets and resources of the company were engaged in providing services for the heavy specialized transportation market. By focusing all its efforts and resources in this market niche, Perkins STC became the premier carrier of shipments that are extreme in size and weight throughout North America.

2002: Demand for specialized services grew the business rapidly. The number of tractors, specialized trailers, and employees has increased consistently during that time.
2006: A new Operations Center was purchased in Northfield, MN and is now the home of a company that sets the standard for the rest of the industry.
2011: Perkins transported a 400 ton radioactive steam generator over 1,000 miles from southern California to Utah with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 1.6 million lbs. That was the longest distance ever permitted in the U.S. at that weight.
