Perkins has its share of battles finding the right people who are cut out for our line of work. Some last a day and others make it their career. We are incredibly lucky and grateful to our crews who work long-hard hours, travel non-stop, and make safety a priority.

It's not always easy to predict if someone is a good fit. That is why we believe our Orientation process is so important for the success of new hires. Yes, it's a lot of classroom training and nothing beats hands-on-in-field training, but you will get PLENTY of that within your first year. Providing a high level overview of the job helps our new recruits recognize the important tasks and assignments on the road before they make assumptions and potentially put themselves or others in danger.

About a year ago we were invited to participate in a nationwide public service announcement (PSA) and it was released just last week online. This short, 5-min video features employees from various SC&RA member companies highlighting their job responsibilities, how they got into the industry, and what a typical day looks likes.  These personal stories share the passion and excitement when pursuing a career in the industry.

At Perkins it's not necessarily all about where you've been and how long you've been doing something. It's about your willingness to learn, your ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment, and your determination to work hard to complete tasks well and safely. We believe that the more open one is to these three traits, the more success you will develop throughout any career, especially one in the heavy haul and transportation industries.

We hope if you are in the industry, looking to join, or know others who might be a good fit that you check out our website, our facebook, and let us know how we can help!
