When our modular trailers make a turn all the components of the trailer must work together and these situations really showcase that, as you will see from the video below. The direction of travel, the size of the load, any obstructions, such as traffic lights, medians, wires, and bridges give yet another dimension to consider when planning a route and executing a load.
Perkins was contracted to move three (3) large industrial boilers each weighing 258,000 pounds in early spring. A feasibility and operational study (FOS) was completed to make sure the three pieces could be routed and permitted properly from Oklahoma to New York. The states along this route have very specific requirements that must be met in order to comply with all state, city, and county regulations. Not to mention, the three boilers were each 19' 6" wide, providing another challenge in finding a route that could handle the oversize weight, in addition to the extreme width.
Perkins was contracted by a leading international supplier of industrial gases to move four (4) cryogenic storage tanks from a fabricator in Mont Belvieu, TX to Dawson Creek, BC. The first pair of storage tanks were transported together and all four were moved safely and to the satisfaction of our client during AB spring road bans.
During a 17-day timeframe, Perkins field and operations professionals successfully moved a new Yankee dryer manufactured in Germany from the Port of Houston, TX to a greenfield tissue paper plant in Bear River City, UT.
Perkins was contacted by a repeat customer, a major logistics company and freight forwarder in Houston, TX requesting that we consider moving various sections of three (3) coker units to Houston, TX for export to a Middle Eastern oil refinery.
Perkins was contracted by a California utility to move four (4) steam generator sections with dimensions of 46’ 4” length, 15’ 6” width, 14’ 5” height, and a weight of 760,335 lbs from CA to UT. To accomplish the task, Perkins developed the “Road Train” transporter, a Trail King 800 suspension system with 48 dual lane loading hydraulic/gas bogies. Conceived and initially designed by Perkins project managers and engineers, “Road Train” was professionally built by a major US trailer manufacturer for the project.
Perkins representatives routinely use a consultative sales approach by intent. When we receive inquiries for opportunities that are better suited for others, we frequently recommend other member companies of the Specialized Carrier & Rigging Association (SC&RA) with whom we are familiar that might be a better fit for your work. We simply want to be your first call for all of your superload opportunities; your “biggest and ugliest” cargo moves!
The project was straightforward and planned months in advance: move two (2) identical D-type boilers that measured 47' - 3" long, 20' - 0" wide, 16' - 4" height, and weight 240,000 lbs. Using a pair of Perkins' dual lane loading suspensions systems we were to haul them from Lincoln, NE through Iowa and Minnesota and deliver them into downtown Madison WI to the University right after Spring Road Restrictions were lifted in MN and WI. While certainly not an easy set of moves, they were, relatively speaking, a typical project for Perkins. Then the flood came.
It is our belief that your use of the QUANTUM™ trailer could profoundly change the way shippers think about the way they design their long and/or delicate fabrications and have them moved throughout North America. The QUANTUM™ hydraulic transporter is designed to handle extremely long and/or wide payloads up for cargo from 160,000 lbs to 240,000 lbs (subject to state/provincial axle loading requirements along the routing). There is no assembly or disassembly required, which is a huge time savings compared to the Goldhofer, which must be assembled prior to mobilization or on site.
Perkins Specialized Transportation Contracting was pleased to have been contracted to provide transportation of these Advance Gun System gun mount assemblies to Bath, ME for this important defense project. The first of the four AGS gun mount assemblies was built in Fridley, MN and was delivered to the West Desert Test Center at Dugway Proving Grounds located 85 miles southwest of Salt Lake City, UT for test firing.
Perkins Specialized Transportation Contracting previously moved 87 process and pipe rack modules from two Texas fabrication facilities located in Abilene, TX and Corpus Christi, TX respectively, to a west Texas gas processing plant near Fort Stockton. Although the modules weights ranged from a mere 29,687 lbs up to 237,000 lbs, the highway transportation of the bulky modules all had common issues that Perkins overcame with sound engineering and superior equipment.
Perkins safely moved 462 pre-cast concrete bridge segments from a pour yard in Coates, MN for a civil contractor company on their massive bridge project, the reconstruction of the I-35W / Crosstown Highway (MN 62) interchange. This was one of the busiest "spaghetti junctions" in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area during rush hour.
We've all seen a bridge construction project where a crane is offloading bridge beams from trucks lined up on the side of the highway each waiting for their turn to get unloaded. However, in the construction of the Main Street Bridge over the Scioto River in downtown Columbus, OH, Perkins played a leading role by delivering its huge girders and arch sections from Wisconsin.
A Canadian logistics company was contracted by an Alberta electric utility to transport a fully assembled IP/LP steam turbine from an ocean terminal warehouse in Norfolk, CA for a power plant site in southern Alberta. The project began when a Virginia-based rigging and transportation company was contracted by the client to move the turbine from storage, roll it onto a heavy-duty deck barge, and have it delivered to the Port of Duluth on Lake Superior.
Perkins handled the task of moving two package boilers for our freight forwarder client from Houston, TX to a major refinery in Blaine, WA located minutes from both the Pacific Ocean and the WA/BC border. At 46' - 0'' long, 20' - 0'' wide, 15' - 0'' high and weighing 256,400 lbs with an asymmetrical center of gravity, this pair of big boilers were challenging, but no match for the Perkins team of professionals.
Perkins was selected by a major industrial boiler manufacturer to move a series of five D-style boilers for them into northern Alberta to be used to support living conditions in that region's harsh winter climate. While not particularly heavy at only 178,000 lbs each, the boiler's physical characteristics provided their own challenges.
Perkins STC contracted with a major power plant equipment manufacturer to transport one of its new power packages to a job site in South Dakota. The power package, consisting of a turbine skid came in at a hefty 372,000 lbs and its 366,000 lb generator had been barged up the Mississippi River from the manufacturer's Houston, TX facility to a privately owned barge-unloading site in Rosemount, MN.
Perkins was hired as a subcontractor by Mammoet Canada Western Ltd to move an over-dimensional 209,000 lb reactor vessel from a major Houston, TX fabrication facility to the Canadian Natural Resources Ltd (CNRL) Horizon Oil Sands Project near Fort MacKay, AB. With vessel dimensions at 79’ - 0" long, 16’ - 5” wide and 16’ - 10” high, the piece was too dimensionally extreme for rail transportation and had to move over the road.
After competitive bidding Perkins STC was awarded a job from a major international freight forwarder to move two huge loads from a Houston, TX ocean terminal into northern Alberta. The project consisted of moving two separator vessels with net weights of 286,600 lbs and 275,625 lbs, respectively, imported from Italy for delivery to Canadian Natural Resources, Ltd (CNRL) Horizon Oil Sands Project located near Fort McMurray, AB.
Immediately upon arrival from Germany to City Docks in Houston, TX, Perkins set its experienced superintendents and crew with the task of the initial assembly of the latest hydraulic platform trailer innovation available on the international market for moving super-loads over the highways of North America, our Goldhofer dual lane hydraulic trailers!
